Agua Negra
Unfinished Business
Week 10 brought Charles, Alex, and Federico to Agua Negra for an exceptional week of fishing.
For Charles and Alex, however, this trip carried some unfinished business. Both had visited the lodge the previous year during a week when weather conditions had not been on their side. This time, they returned hoping to experience the true potential of Tsimane, and the rivers delivered.
Charles chose to fish solo, as he had the year before, while Alex and Federico fished together. Between them, the week produced several quality dorado, three pacú, and multiple fish over 20 pounds. Charles would eventually land his biggest dorado to date, possibly one of the largest of the season so far.
But the week wasn’t straightforward. Heavy rain changed the Sécure midway through the trip, forcing the anglers to adapt and making what followed even more rewarding.
3 Charles (United States); Alex (Scotland); Federico (Italy).
The week began under very good conditions before significant rainfall arrived on the third day and changed the rivers. Despite the rain, both the Chimoro and Agua Negra remained fishable and continued producing excellent fishing.
The Sécure began the week in spectacular condition, with very clear water and excellent fishing. After the heavy rain on day three the river became stained, while the Agua Negra and Chimoro remained in very good shape. Toward the end of the week the Sécure began clearing again, and Charles took advantage of the improving conditions to land two very good dorado.
Catch of the Week
Charles Finds the Fish He Came Back For
Fishing during a rainy day at the Agua Negra camp, Charles connected with his biggest dorado to date, and possibly one of the largest fish landed this season so far.
After returning to Agua Negra following his previous trip, it was a fitting fish for a week in which he finally experienced the potential he had come back to find.
Memorable Moments
Alex’s 20-Pound Dorado
Alex found the fish he had come looking for: a dorado over 20 pounds, one of the defining catches of his return to Agua Negra.
Persistence Pays Off
After several opportunities throughout the week, Charles finally connected with another dorado over 20 pounds, adding a second major fish to an already exceptional trip.
Pacú Goals Accomplished
Charles achieved another of his major objectives by landing a pacú, while Federico took advantage of the Sécure’s spectacular opening-day conditions to land two pacú of his own.
Looking Ahead
The rivers demonstrated their ability to recover quickly after significant rain. With the Sécure already beginning to clear and Agua Negra and Chimoro remaining in strong condition, Week 10 ended much as it began: with quality opportunities for both large dorado and pacú.
