A Different Kind of Jungle Rhythm
At this point in the season, writing about the intrinsic magic of this seemingly immutable environment has become more than familiar, and at times I run the risk, driven purely by the passion that moves us, of repeating myself.
And yet, on rare and valuable occasions, even the jungle itself can be surprised. Metaphorically speaking, it can find itself challenged by a continuous commotion, born from an interaction as powerful as the orchestra of jungle murmurs that, 24 hours a day, weaves the notes of a song that never stops.
This week, the three couples and our seventh guest arrived without knowing one another or having had any previous contact before meeting in this sanctuary. And they became a testament to how empathy and an authentic connection can, at times, even drown out the jungle itself and its deep, ever-present conversation. Good humor, enjoyment, endless conversations, and stories of every color came together to shape a truly memorable experience.
And the river had its own contribution to make. Two massive 24-pound female dorado would end up sharing our Catch of the Week, while far upstream, two more fish over 20 pounds came from the kind of delicate, shallow water where you would hardly expect to encounter them.

This time at Sécure Lodge, we went through an extremely changeable week. There were entire days when we literally fished beneath a curtain of rain, followed by milder days under cloudy, occasionally threatening skies, but with temperatures that remained remarkably comfortable for putting in the energy required in the search for success.
The week began with normal water conditions, but both level and clarity gradually changed after massive rainfall arrived on Sunday night and continued through Monday. Despite the high water and reduced visibility, the fishing remained remarkably good. The river’s natural recovery began on Wednesday, and by the end of the week the Sécure was stable once again and carrying an ideal color.
Catch of the Week
24 + 24
Unfortunately, this time we can’t quite fulfill the Catch of the Week requirement literally, an essential part of any Fishing Report.
Simply because we don’t have one. We have two.
On different days and in different sections of the river, Allison and Liz each landed remarkably similar fish: two massive 24-pound (11 kg) female dorado that clearly deserve to share the top spot this week.
Beyond their identical weight, having two anglers encounter fish of this caliber in different places and at different moments of the week was another reminder of how widely opportunities can unfold across the Sécure system.
So, for once, there will be no choosing between them. Two great fish, two great catches, and a well-earned shared title for Allison and Liz.
Memorable Moments
When Dorado Fishing Feels Like Trout Fishing
Far upstream from the lodge, the character of the Sécure begins to change.
Here, the water can feel much closer to the delicate game of pursuing trout with light tackle than to the kind of place where you would expect to encounter large dorado. Shallow runs, intimate water, and presentations where the approach becomes part of the challenge.
It was in this setting that Matt worked a surface fly, while Ryan King cast a streamer through a shallow run. Two different approaches produced two remarkable fish: 21- and 20-pound dorado brought to the bank.
There is something particularly memorable about encountering fish of this size in water of this scale. Seeing those flashes of olive, orange, and molten gold emerge from a shallow run is one of the contrasts that makes fishing the upper reaches of the Sécure so distinctive.
Two fish they will surely remember for a long time, not only for their size, but for where and how they found them.
