Fishing Through the Rain
The seventh week of the season brought six anglers to Sécure Lodge — four from the United States and two from Europe — for a week that challenged expectations from the very beginning.
Persistent rain, soaked rain jackets, and rapidly changing river conditions became part of the experience, yet none of it prevented exceptional fishing.
Instead, the week proved once again that understanding the river often matters more than waiting for perfect weather.

The week began with steady rainfall that continued through the first three days and nights without significantly affecting water clarity. Although brief breaks appeared from time to time, rain remained a constant companion throughout most of the week, an unusual pattern for this stage of the season.
Water levels began high but stable, providing excellent fishing conditions in both the tributaries and the main river. Beginning Tuesday morning, suspended sediment increased noticeably, and by Wednesday the river had turned completely off-color as upstream runoff reached the system.
Catch of the Week
Five Casts to Perfection
Sight-fishing a shallow run upstream from the lodge, Matt found himself in one of those moments every fly angler hopes for. It took five precise casts before everything finally came together.
The reward was a flawless 22-pound female dorado, landed after a pure adrenaline-filled encounter that captured everything this fishery is known for: careful observation, accurate presentation, and the unforgettable visual eat.

Some feeding frenzies last only seconds. Others seem to suspend time.
Working a shallow flat where schools of dorado regularly ambush migrating sábalo, Rob landed two dorado of approximately 7 and 9 pounds within just a couple of minutes, taking full advantage of a prolonged hunting frenzy that unfolded right in front of him.
The Yellow Torpedo
Later in the week, with rising water and reduced visibility, Carsten connected with a powerful 20-pound “yellow torpedo.” The strike came on a surface fly, adding one more unforgettable visual eat to a week already filled with memorable moments.
Looking Ahead
Although the recent rains have temporarily increased river levels and reduced water clarity, current conditions continue to suggest stable fishing opportunities.
If weather patterns normalize, the healthy fish population throughout the system should continue producing outstanding sight-fishing opportunities in the weeks ahead.
