Making the Most of Tough Conditions

Week seven brought Christiaan Pretorius hosting a group; our friend Bianca Foianini; and anglers from the United States.

This week came with challenging weather: Heavy rain arrived during its second half and rivers rose quickly, but that was no obstacle: anglers continued finding opportunities, proving that productive fishing often comes from adapting rather than waiting for perfect conditions.

Anglers

13 Bianca (Bolivia); Christiaan (South Africa); Thomas (Ireland); Brad, Scotty, Michael, Andrew, Scott, David, Douglas, David, Link & Sarri (United States).

Weather

Conditions remained favorable through the first half of the week before heavy rain settled over the region during the remaining fishing days.

Water

River levels rose significantly and water became heavily stained after the rainfall, creating more demanding fishing conditions throughout the second half of the trip.

Catch of the Week

Dave's unexpected surubí, taken on a blind cast at Pluma

A Surprise Cast

Watching a school of migrating sábalo moving through the current, Dave delivered a cast expecting a large dorado to appear.

Instead, the take came from something far less common.

The fish turned out to be a beautiful surubí, an unexpected reward that transformed an ordinary blind cast into one of the week’s most memorable captures.

Memorable Moments

Quality pacú and dorado landed under challenging water conditions at Pluma

A River Full of Surprises

Despite difficult water conditions, anglers enjoyed memorable encounters throughout the week, landing several quality pacú, large dorado, and the week’s unexpected surubí, highlighting the remarkable diversity these rivers can offer even under challenging conditions.

Looking Ahead

With river levels beginning to drop and warmer temperatures returning, conditions are expected to continue improving over the coming days, setting the stage for another productive week at Pluma Lodge.
