Recovering Rivers, Outstanding Fishing
Week seven welcomed Steve Berry back to Tsimane, joined by four friends: Rodrigo, Darren, Peter, and Trevor.
It was a fantastic week with a great group of anglers who enjoyed every opportunity the rivers had to offer.
Stable weather the first days gave way to a midweek rain, but the fishing stayed consistently productive — and as conditions improved, the final day and a half delivered excellent fishing.

The week opened with mostly sunny skies and stable weather for ideal fishing conditions, before heavy rain moved through the area midway through the trip. After 1 day of bad weather, conditions quickly improved, allowing excellent fishing conditions again.
Fishing remained productive across changing conditions. Both the Sécure and Agua Negra rivers produced quality dorado throughout the week, offering everything from technical sight-fishing in clear water to exciting topwater opportunities once rivers rose after the rain. As water levels dropped again, conditions returned to excellent shape.
Catch of the Week
Topwater Fly in Rising Water
During one of the days when the river was high and slightly off-color, Steve and guide Santi spotted a large dorado hunting in a shallow run.
A perfectly presented topwater fly triggered an explosive strike, resulting in the biggest dorado of the week; and a memorable reminder that changing conditions often create unique opportunities.
Memorable Moments
Rodrigo’s First Dorado on Fly
The trip couldn’t have started much better. Fishing together on the Sécure River, Steve and Rodrigo enjoyed an outstanding opening day that ended with 12 dorado landed, including Rodrigo’s very first dorado on fly and a beautiful trophy fish.
Peter’s Remarkable Week
At 80 years old, Peter demonstrated that experience never goes out of style, landing several memorable dorado throughout the week and adding another remarkable chapter to a lifetime of fly fishing.
A Trophy Worth Traveling For
Having fished many renowned destinations around the world, Darren connected with an impressive 18-pound dorado in the fast water of the Sécure, a fish that quickly became one of the defining moments of his trip.
Looking Ahead
As water temperatures continue to rise, pacú activity is expected to improve. If weather conditions remain stable, both the Sécure and Agua Negra rivers should continue offering excellent dorado fishing while providing increasing opportunities for active pacú in the weeks ahead.
