Mice in the Rising Water
Week 11 brought an international group of anglers to Pluma, with guests from the United States, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, and Canada sharing the river for the week.
We had a lot of returning friends to Tsimane: Sammy and his son, Nicholas; Joel and his group, Ryan, Matt, Pablo, Mike, Jason, Bryan, Geoffrey; Breno, & Beto. A total of 16 anglers, 12 Heli Fishing and 4 on our Classic Jungle Experience.
Fishing started strong, with two very good days before rain and rising water completely changed the scenario. As the river climbed, the water became increasingly turbid and cold, making fishing considerably more challenging through the middle of the week.
Still, the river kept producing memorable encounters. Several fish came up for mouse patterns, Pablo landed a pacú, and Jason connected with a great dorado. One of the week’s standout moments came as the river was rising and losing clarity, when a 95-centimeter dorado came out of a pocket to take a mouse pattern on the surface.
Then, on Friday, Pluma changed once again. After several difficult days, the fishing picked up and the week finished with a very good final day on the water.

Rain arrived after the first two days of the week and marked a clear change in conditions.
The clear water we had enjoyed at the beginning of the trip gradually gave way to colder, more turbid water as the river continued to rise.
The week began with clear water, but after the rain the river rose considerably and became very turbid.
Those conditions made fishing more difficult for several days before the week ultimately finished with improved conditions: good levels, better temperature and color, and a strong final day of fishing.

95 Centimeters on a Mouse
The river was slowly rising and the water was already beginning to lose clarity when one particular pocket offered an opportunity.
A mouse pattern went in.
A big dorado came out to take it.
The fish measured 95 centimeters, making it one of the defining catches of a week in which changing water repeatedly tested the fishing.

The 95-centimeter dorado wasn’t the week’s only encounter on top.
Several fish were caught on mouse patterns, making surface fishing one of the recurring highlights of Week 11, landing several big dorado.
Pablo’s Pacú
Our good friend Pablo added another memorable fish to the week with a pacú, bringing some welcome variety to the catches at Pluma.
Looking Ahead
Week 11 showed us very different versions of the same river.
Good fishing and clear water opened the week. Rain then brought high, cold and turbid conditions that made the middle days considerably tougher. By Friday the situation had turned once again, and Pluma finished with a very good day of fishing and the river showing good levels, temperature and color.
From mouse-eating dorado to Pablo’s pacú and Jason’s big fish, there were still plenty of moments to remember in between.
