The Absolute Jungle Experience |
(August, Friday18 to Friday 25) |
We spent this last week with anglers from Argentina and Bolivia. Waters showed unusual
conditions such as a milky hue that appeared to be coming from a creek or limestone outcrop
far away upstream, which became a new challenge along with hot sunny days... and the results
were amazing!!! |

Hot weather and murky waters made Pacú fshing less promising than it
seemed a few weeks earlier. Nevertheless, a huge 22 pounder Pacú was landed
and a 11 pounder bit on a fruit imitation. When the waters cleared back up
guides and anglers had a new chance for sight-fshing as Pacús swam in
shallow rifes, perfect to be caught on dries or light streamers on surface. tet
this time adrenaline did its job and Pacús won the battle. |

This week ás hot spot were logs and sticks downstream, the kind of structure
where Dorados hunt and rest under the trees, chasing and eating Sábalos
every once in a while. Here, by casting medium and big-sized fies close and
almost into the puzzle of the log, anglers achieved a great number of catches,
with 21 Dorados over 12 pounds, 6 of them over 20 pounds and two giants of
28 and 29 pounds. Also nice Yatoranas, the number one fghters and pound by
pound the most powerful species around, joined in to say goodbye with Asunta
camp to another fantastic week in this neverending jungle adventure. |

(August Saturday 19 to Saturday 26) |
The week began with good catches in every beat. On the first day we caught
some 20 plus pounder fish in Itirizama on sightfishing, some Pacús in Pluma
and many Dorados around 16 to 18lb in Sécure. |

The conditions changed suddenly on monday after some rains in the
headweaters. As the water changed its temperature and color the fishing got
more difficult.
We didn’t caught any fish in the upper systems Itirizama and Pluma, but after
wednesday things went back to normal and the river was fishable again. |

The last two days, with the waters showing excellent level and color, we caught
the best fish of the week. Pool like Confuence, Placa and Coruya gave us fish
between 18 and 26 lbs.
Nine anglers from the US shared this week with us, enjoying the place and the
hospitality of the whole Pluma Lodge staf.
We used 8 and 9 weight outfts with foating and intermediate lines. Classic
streamers on 3/0 and 4/0 barbless hooks and Nyap poppers. |
(August Saturday 19 to Saturday 26) |
This was a really exciting week for the 4 anglers, all of them american, that
visited the lodge. The weather was warm and humid. Temperatures went from<
17o to 35o Celsius and the waters reached a minimum of 22o Celsius and a
maximum of 26o Celsius. |

The arrival of a school of mojarras passing through or bits of the Sécure
brought along a golden horde behing them. For two days in a row an 86 year
old angler, one real example of life, made a lot of catches, the biggest one of
7kg, and lost a pair of greater weight due to cutting or those acrobatics these
guys already have us accostumed to. |

On the other hand, in the lower part of the Sécure an angler who had already
caught Dorados of 8,9 and 10kg in the Agua Negra river obtained an 8kg Pacú
thta forced us to sail a long way downstream.
"An unforgettable experience in the jungle next to this wonderful river" (Agua
Negra river) were the words of another one of the anglers when he arrived at
the lodge after three days camping by the Agua Negra river. Finally, an 11kg
Dorado was the largest catch. |
